The EDRi Brussels office is currently looking for an intern to support our campaigns on biometric mass surveillance and platform power. The internship will mainly focus on layout and digital design, coalition building and campaign coordination.

This is your chance to work in a fast paced environment with a passionate team of digital rights activists supporting grass-roots efforts across Europe to build a better digital future.

The internship will begin in February 2021 for a period of 4-6 months. The chosen campaigns champion will receive a monthly remuneration of minimum 850 EUR (according to “convention d’immersion professionnelle” in Belgium). Note that due to COVID19 government regulations in Belgium, the EDRi team currently works from home. We expect our new colleague to follow the same principles of teleworking. Therefore the role can be performed remotely, preferably from the CET time zone.

About the role

Communication tasks

  • Edit of existing visuals, element rearrangement and readiness for different Social Media channels (e.g. banners, sharepics, cards, buttons for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Website, email)
  • Layout & design of new material (e.g. booklets, action packs, press kits, infographics, Social media visuals)
  • Gif creation
  • Basic video edit

Coalition building tasks

  • Research of social media influencers in key selected countries
  • Contact details gathering of selected journalists and civil society organisations in key selected countries
  • Press coverage monitoring in key selected countries

 

Coordination tasks

  • Support in managing the pool of translators and translated material
  • Coordination of campaign – related online events (internal and external coalition, as well as public – oriented)

In order for the role’s tasks to be performed accordingly, we envision the following needed and desired elements in a candidate’s background.

Needed:

  • Experience and strong skills in graphic design and layouting
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Excellent research skills and ability to establish contact with selected actors
  • Ability to multi-task and strong time management skills
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Proactive problem-solver

Desired:

  • Experience with community organising, journalism or media
  • Experience with social media influencers management.
  • Interest in online activism and campaigning for digital human rights, especially around topics as platform power and biometric mass surveillance.

The first phase of the recruitment process involves a 1 hour exercise and is expected to take place on 5 February, from 12.00 – 13.00 CEST. Interviews with selected candidates will take place in the second recruitment phase, on 11 February from 12.00 to 16.00 CEST. The start of the internship is flexible, but envisioned within the month of February.
