ECNL is seeking individuals who are passionate about ECNL’s mission and bring experience, perspective, and leadership aligned with one or more of the following areas:

  • Resilient civil society. ECNL is reflecting on how to evolve the civil society model of work to remain efficient, agile and sustainable. We welcome candidates with experience in building adaptive governance structures, exploring new funding models, or leading organisational transformation within the nonprofit, hybrid or mission-driven business sectors.
  • Social impact and public benefit. We would love to involve partners who understand how business practices and technological innovation can advance civic engagement and accountability. Knowledge of social enterprise, ethical technology, or standards linking private-sector innovation with public interest would strengthen ECNL’s impact in these areas.
  • Financing, budgeting and audits. Strong financial stewardship is fundamental to ECNL’s mission and independence. We seek candidates with proven experience in financial planning, grant and budget management, or organisational audits who can contribute to our governance and oversight processes.
  • Use of technology for organisational development and collaboration. Experience using technology and AI in responsible way to enhance internal efficiency, transparency, and cross-border cooperation would be highly valuable.

Commitment

The Supervisory Council plays a vital role in ECNL’s governance. It provides independent oversight and strategic advice, ensuring that our work remains impactful, transparent and sustainable. SC members:

  • supervise the policies of the Board;
  • supervise the general course of affairs in ECNL, including support for mobilisation of resources;
  • offer strategic advice;
  • approve strategic policy plans and the annual report;
  • are appointed for 2 years, renewable twice.

The Council consists of up to 5 persons and meets at least once a year. The role is voluntary and non-remunerated for initial two years. Travel related costs are reimbursed. The work of the Council is mainly virtual, with about 2 hours per month (with most intensive months being May/June and Nov/December for necessary reviews and approvals). In person meetings may happen once a year.
