Their mission is to raise awareness about the impacts of AI, equip advocates with empirical research, build the voice and choice of the most impacted communities, and galvanize researchers, policy makers, and industry practitioners to mitigate AI harms and biases. This is an emerging field and so can be easily overlooked but is a critically important part of fighting for social justice and equality in our society.

1. Project Overview: Social Media consultant Contract

The Social Media Consultant supports the Algorithmic Justice League’s efforts to mobilize, activate, and grow our mailing list and social media followers as we build a powerful movement for equitable and accountable Artificial Intelligence (AI).  If you are ready to provide support to our team and help  grow a nascent digital program with a lot of potential, this may be the role for you.

AJL seeks to contract a skilled Social Media Consultant to support online outreach, digital engagement, and membership growth, while working closely with our staff, other contractors, and partners to achieve strategic goals. You will play a key role in supporting our efforts to maximize the impact of AJL’s campaigns. You will also advance our work to keep facial recognition technologies out of schools, and other strategic objectives in 2021-2022. You will help engage, motivate, and inspire AJL Agents of Change (our mailing list and social followers) with clear, compelling calls to action.

The Social Media Consultant works closely with a remote team that includes a communications lead, other contractors, partner organizations, and volunteers. We are a small and mighty team with a rapid growth plan for 2021-2022. Compensation:  $14,400-$19,200 total (based on an estimated 20 hours per week, $60-80/hr)

2. Opening for: Director of Communications

Position Summary

This leadership position is responsible for developing, executing, and assessing AJL’s organization-wide communications, media outreach, and narrative strategy.

This is a full-time regular position, and is overtime exempt. This is a remote position, with regular videoconferencing and shared virtual workspaces.

Reports to: Executive Director

Hours per week (average): 40

Overtime Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $140,000 – $160,000 annually, based on location and experience

3. Opening for: Development Lead

As the Development Lead, you will play a key role in AJL’s growth. You will support the design,
implementation and continued development of our fundraising plan, in support of our mission: building a powerful movement for equitable and accountable Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Development Lead will specifically lead the continued design and scale of AJL’s individual giving programs, corporate employee engagement campaigns, and other development initiatives in support of growing AJL’s Agent base of individual donors. This role will provide critical support to the Director of Development with revenue generation initiatives aimed at garnering philanthropic resources from existing and new funders, as well as diversifying AJL’s revenue streams.

The success of these programs will further enable AJL to expand our work into new areas of impact, including extending our flagship work on facial recognition technologies to their application in educational settings, as well as the use of AI in employment,
healthcare, and transportation.
The ideal candidate will have experience planning, organizing, and managing successful individual giving programs, from grassroots fundraising to larger individual gifts in excess of $1,000; experience in corporate employee engagement programs; as well as experience in supporting development leadership with fundraising portfolios in the corporate, foundation, or public spaces. The Development Lead will work closely with a remote team that includes paid staff, other contractors, partner organizations, and volunteers. As such, the desire to thrive in a remote environment, and the ability to work in partnership with cross-functional groups and stakeholders is a critical success factor for this position.
