The internet should not demand constant self-defence: Fairness starts before the click
A fair digital environment cannot – and should not – depend on everyone being permanently alert. Fairness must be built into the environment itself, not left to the skills of the people using it. In practice, that means rules, not appeals: cancelling must be as easy as subscribing, protection must be the default rather than a setting, and a system that detects a moment of weakness must not be allowed to act on it.

What the new Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy means for workers – and what’s next for implementation
In June 2026, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) adopted a new Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy. Following in the footsteps of the EU’s Platform Work Directive, this Convention extends data protection rights for platform workers and contains innovative provisions to protect against the adverse effects of automated decision-making globally. But this is only the beginning.
