CIR Open Source Film Awards 2025

As part of the International Journalism Festival, the CIR Open Source Film Awards 2025 will bring together investigative journalists, filmmakers, and open source analysts to honour outstanding visual storytelling. The awards aim to highlight the growing role of open source methods in journalism and accountability work, and to support a global community of digital investigators.

In addition to the awards ceremony, CIR will host an Open Source Investigative Masterclass on 9 April, led by CIR’s Director of Investigations and a Reuters Visual Investigations reporter. Attendees will learn advanced techniques for verifying disinformation, using satellite imagery, geolocation, and digital forensics.

This year’s prizes are supported by Planet, a leader in satellite imagery, offering tangible tools to help winning teams expand their investigations. Entry is free and open, and the event provides a valuable platform for learning, visibility, and connection. Find out more about the event here.
