When?

  •  10-12 May
  • Pre-SIF on 7 May 2021.

What?

Stockholm Internet Forum is a platform for advancing a free, open and secure internet as a driver of development. It offers an arena for exchanging ideas and knowledge. It is a place to forge new partnerships for civil society, private sector, academia, donors and governments.

The ongoing pandemic has led to shifts in societies and development across the globe. As both individuals and organisations rely on trustworthy information to act safely and resume economic activities, access to a free internet is critical. In this era of uncertainty, where technical solutions are hastily developed and deployed, we must ensure privacy and human rights are not set aside.

As we face new challenges for democracy, Stockholm Internet Forum 2021 focuses on Mobilising for Digital Resilience – a free, open, and secure internet in the shifting landscapes of the pandemic.

Within this theme, the event will identify challenges that have emerged in the wake of the pandemic and present examples of inspiring counter measures.

From these identified challenges and counter measures, the sessions will focus on strategies and solutions for a resilient future.

SIF21 will be a completely digital experience, creating a unique opportunity for participants to come together to keep pushing the agenda forward across borders and time zones.

How to participate?

Participation in the forum is by invitation only, and you have been selected through a process of nomination from Swedish embassies and/or Sida partners, or other related organisations from all over the world.

You can also notify SIF of your interest by completing their self-nomination form. Please submit all required information, including a motivation for why you would like to participate in SIF21.

Access?

The forum is free of charge.

Sida recognizes that remote participation can be prohibitively costly, and has therefore decided to offer financial support to enable participation.

Sida understands that structural discrimination can apply to access in all its various dimensions and can be experienced by people in all parts of the world.

The programme for financial support is carried out in collaboration with the Association for Progressive Communication (APC).

Remote participation grants of US$100 can be applied for by all invited participants, who are in need of financial support, and are eligible in one or more of the following criteria:
