Party-cipate and #CelebrateEncryption
Now is the time to show your support for encryption and influence the European Parliament to do better for children and everyone else. Join the #CelebrateEncryption action and share photos of you and your friends promoting privacy and celebrating encryption.
As of 2022, over 2 billion people use encryption every day, all over the world. The reason is simple: Encryption makes sure our online communications are safe, secure and private. Privacy empowers us all. But an EU law proposal (Child Sexual Abuse Regulation) threatens encryption.
The proposal introduces measures to scan private messages. The measures will turn everyone into a suspect, undermining encryption and leading to censorship and repression online.
Now is the time to show your support for encryption and influence the European Parliament to do better for children and everyone else.
Join the #CelebrateEncryption action and share photos of you and your friends promoting privacy and celebrating encryption. Write in the comment of your post why encryption is important to you.
What should the photos include?
Masked (e.g. sunglasses) and non-masked faces
Evoke a festive atmosphere e.g. via party costumes
Display symbols related to “safety”, “encryption”,”privacy”
(you can print these signs or use them as an example)
How will your #CelebrateEncryption photos make a difference?
This autumn, the European Parliament will cast its vote on the CSAR proposal which can bring crucial changes to life, online and offline, as we know it.
On 10 October, EDRi will display in front of the European Parliament a big collage of all photos using the #CelebrateEncryption hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, Mastodon, and Instagram.
MEPs will see that encryption is a powerful tool that helps people like you to thrive.
