STOP spying on air travellers!

STOP spying on air travellers!

By EDRi · November 24, 2014

Tomorrow, the European Parliament will make an important decision on your right to privacy.

The European Commission wants to collect, store and transfer all your flight passenger data to Canada. A resolution will be presented in the European Parliament to ask the Court of Justice (CJEU) if this agreement respects our fundamental rights. This is an important vote to stop air passenger data retention once and for all.

What are the main problems with this agreement?

  • The measure proposes blanket data retention and an excessive storage period.
  • All citizens flying between EU and Canada are targeted.
  • There is no evidence that the retention of air passenger data works to fight against terrorism.
  • The CJEU ruled earlier this year that this suspicionless storage of communication data provided for in the Data Retention Directive was illegal.
  • If the Canada agreement were adopted the EU would have inconsistent agreements with Canada, Australia and the USA with no clarity regards what is necessary.

Take action now!

Ask your representatives to support the resolution! Make your voice heard and communicate your concerns to your elected representatives by calling or sending them an email.
