Welcome EDRi’s new Head of Policy: Ella Jakubowska
Ella takes up this role from her previous EDRi position as Senior Policy Advisor, where she led advocacy on facial recognition, the confidentiality of online communications, age verification and more.
EDRi is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Head of Policy, Ella Jakubowska. Ella takes up this role from her previous EDRi position as Senior Policy Advisor, where she led advocacy on facial recognition, the confidentiality of online communications, age verification and more.
In this new role, Ella will work on representing EDRi, building bridges and strengthening connections within and outside the policy team. She’ll also have the privilege of enabling and promoting the important work of EDRi’s policy team and members.
Ella has experience advocating across numerous EU and national laws relating to digital rights, and an in-depth knowledge of EU policy and lawmaking processes. In 2021, her thought leadership was recognised when she was co-named one of Politico’s top 28 most influential people in the EU tech policy space.
Prior to joining EDRi, Ella was studying for her master’s in Human Rights, where a chance trip to RightsCon Tunis convinced her that the digital rights field was where she wanted to be. Before that, she held several different roles at an international engineering and technology company, which catalysed her interest in digitalisation and data science – but also showed her that she wanted to work on them from a societal perspective.
In this new capacity, Ella continues her commitment to fostering intersectional feminist and sociological perspectives in her work. She is also invested in supporting and expanding a resilient and diverse digital rights field, including through the decolonising the digital rights field process. She’ll be spending the coming months listening and learning, so please get in touch if you’d like to talk all things digital rights policy.
