EDRi is looking for a new Executive Director
The times and spaces in which we live are challenging and constantly changing. In this context, European Digital Rights (EDRi) offers an opportunity for visionary leadership and an assertive approach to defend and advance digital rights in Europe.
Recently, we announced the opening for EDRi’s Executive Director. In this post we will provide more details about what kind of a profile and leadership style we’re seeking for this role in preparation for the information session we will host next week.
EDRi is an established, Brussels-based organisation, and we have been active in Brussels for over 20 years. We have built our strength on our membership, which consists of over 50 organisations today, and the work of talented, diverse and ambitious people in the EDRi office.
Profile priorities
As 2025 unfolds, we are looking for an Executive Director who will take the lead on EDRi’s fundraising and strategy, participate in the management of a diverse team and represent the organisation in public. The incoming ED will show innovative approaches to securing funding and managing donor relationships. They will serve as the key public face of EDRi, effectively communicating the organisation’s mission in order to effect systemic change. EDRi’s new hire will foster a dynamic, cross-team and nurturing work environment for the Brussels staff, and uphold commitments to inclusion, diversity and justice within the team. This is consistent with our engagement in decolonising the digital rights field in Europe.
We are looking for someone with a collaborative leadership style, ready to face the shifting political landscape in an intentional and proactive way, advancing our advocacy for privacy, equity, and justice in the digital world.
Finally, the person stepping into the role of Executive Director will also prioritise collaboration with the EDRi Board and Management Team, in order to guide the organisation’s future.
Qualifications needed
In order to meet the priorities set for this role, we are looking for someone with leadership experience and commitment to digital justice and human rights.
Ideally, the next ED will bring expertise in non-profit management, a strategic vision for EDRi and the broader digital rights field, as well as knowledge of the impact technology has on our societies.
Finally, EDRi’s Executive Director should have the skills to challenge power nexuses both in the state and private sector.
