EDRi is looking for its new Fundraising Officer to join EDRi’s team in Brussels.
This is a new role in the organisation, working closely with the EDRi team and with EDRi members, to activate the community of supporters of EDRi and shape the development of individual donations to EDRi. At a time of numerous challenges to how technology impacts people, democracy and the planet, and in an adverse period for civil society organisations, this is a unique opportunity for enthusiasts and creative supporters of vibrant civic space.

About the role
EDRi has a long track record of policy expertise and impact in the field of digital rights, internet and digital technology regulation in the European Union and Council of Europe regions. As technology has weaved itself into the fabric of our lives, our societies, EDRi’s mission has never been more relevant. The new colleague will work closely with the Executive Director, the Senior Fundraising Manager and other management team members to find pathways to create communities of supporters and grow EDRi’s own resource to achieve its mission.
This is a new role that will impulse energy to maintain and renew relationship with EDRi community of donors. The person will also support with the delivery of other areas of the development plan.
We are looking for an individual with an interest in digital rights topics, able to explain why what EDRi does matters and with solid skills in communication and supporters management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the execution of annual fundraising work plans and multi-annual EDRi Fundraising Strategy in collaboration with the Senior Fundraising Manager, the Executive Director and other colleagues
- Support the identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of individual donors with a focus on retention of current individual donors (including upgrading their level of support), driving growth and acquisition of new individual donors
- Manage and oversee daily administrative tasks for individual donor engagement and responses to individual donors requests (support service), including database management (CiviCRM)
- Contribute to preparation of digital and print communication materials for individual donors such as email outreach, website texts, booklets, leaflets, event posters etc.
- Assist with planning and executing individual donor engagement events (such as EDRi’s flagship event, the Privacy Camp conference)
- Attend community events and conduct in-person outreach to individual donors
- Assist the Senior Fundraising Manager and the Executive Director with tasks related to other types of fundraising (especially fundraising from grant-making entities and major donors fundraising)
- Collaborate with the Campaigns & Communications Team, the Policy Team and IT support as needed
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years of fundraising or other relevant experience in civil society sector or in a volunteering or professional context
- Experience with fundraising campaigns and donor cultivation/stewardship
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Perfect command of English and preferably also of German (other languages are always a plus)
- Ability to build and develop long-term relationships with individual donors with a lasting impact
- Data-driven approach to individual giving, analytical skills, strategic thinking
- Ability to work independently and strong problem-solving skills
Proficient with CRM systems an advantage (CiviCRM) - Interest in human rights and freedoms in the digital age, in particular platform regulation, privacy, state surveillance and law enforcement, freedom of expression, AI, as well as other digital rights, tech and society issues
