The future of public values in the algorithmic society
Organised by AlgoSoc, this two-day international conference brings together scholars, policymakers, regulators, and civil society advocates to discuss the evolving role of public values in the design, deployment, and governance of AI, algorithms, and digital infrastructures. Moving beyond technology-centric narratives, the conference explores how social, political and institutional contexts shape our responses to algorithmic systems — and how public values must adapt in an age of automation.
The Future of Public Values in the Algorithmic Society
This high-level international conference will challenge participants to rethink how we realise public values like justice, fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI and algorithmic systems. Over two days in Amsterdam, attendees will engage with keynote talks, paper presentations, and networking opportunities. Day one features expert-led discussions on regulatory approaches (EU AI Act, US Executive Order, China’s AI policy) and the limitations of value-sensitive design. Day two deepens the conversation by focusing on cross-sectoral collaboration and the social dimensions of responsible AI innovation.
With speakers ranging from legal scholars and philosophers to engineers and regulators, the conference bridges disciplines and sectors to reshape the global debate on technology governance. Hosted in the iconic Felix Meritis building in central Amsterdam, the event also includes social moments like evening drinks and a formal dinner. Find out more about the event here.
