FCForum will bring together free culture & digital rights activists
On 30-31 October, the Free Culture Forum (FCForum), an international event, will take place in Barcelona. It will be hosted by the Spanish EDRi observer Xnet, and aims to build and coordinate a common action agenda for issues surrounding free/libre culture and access to knowledge, defence of a free/libre and neutral Internet, democracy and fight against corruption.
Bringing together key organisations and active voices in these areas, the FCForum is a meeting point to discuss and find answers to the pressing questions behind the present paradigm shift which will come up with the copyright reform, the Digital Single Market, the new data protection package, and new surveillance measures such as Passenger Name Records and Smart Borders. The FCForum is a space in which to construct grassroots proposals that can strengthen civil society’s proposals and positions. In response to the attempts by private actors to limit and hijack procedures, the FCForum is an opportunity to imagine and create new prototypes that meet the challenges of democracy in the network society.
The first day of this year’s Free Culture Forum will host coordination meetings, including working groups on copyright, net neutrality, and freedom of expression. The following day will include debates on freedom of expression, privacy and civil liberties, legal and communicative fight against corruption, as well as workshops on digital self-defence, right to privacy of communications, and right to information and freedom of expression, all from a civil society perspective.
