Mass facial recognition is the apparatus of police states and must be regulated
Scientists have shown the inherent structural discrimination embedded in biometric systems. Facial analysis algorithms consistently judge black faces to be angrier and more threatening than white faces. We also know that biometric systems are designed with a purportedly “neutral” face and body in mind, which can exclude people with disabilities and anybody that does not conform to an arbitrary norm.

When the police’s IT-systems are not in order, everyone loses
Without the trust of citizens, the police cannot do their job properly. That is why it is important that the police are extremely careful with citizens' data. But an analysis by EDRi member Bits of Freedom shows that of all 36 'mission critical' systems of the police, not one complies with the rules on privacy and information security.

Norway introduces forced biometric authentication
On 5 April 2017, the Norwegian government proposed an amendment to the Norwegian code of criminal proceedings to allow the police to compel the use of biometric authentication. After two quick debates, the Norwegian Parliament passed the proposition into law on 21 June.
